Halfway Reflections

So far, this Independent Study has been incredible. Since January, I have been learning about the history of Photography and who unique individuals in the industry are. I started with the very beginning, the invention of the camera, and how with it came cultural changes that I wasn’t expecting. Then I began really diving into what it takes to me a photojournalist and learning about the identities of specific artists. I interviewed Tamara Lackey about her and her career and the interview process really stirred my emotions. For the past two months I had been reading article after article and it was truly a breath of fresh air to hear first hand experience from someone in the industry. With this I have learned that face to face and first hand learning is the best way I learn. So, I hope to include more interviews as I begin to report on sports teams in march. I don’t have many specific questions but there is one thing I want to learn more about within this study which is reporting. I want to include reporting and writing into my March Unit about Sports Media. I want to know how it is intertwined with photojournalism and what skills I can get out of it. My blog posts so far have been a really good way record my progress and everything I have learned. In reflecting on what I have already learned, I have been able to open new conversations and new routes to new topics. I have loved meeting with my content advisor Mrs Effron, because she helps me to make my photos better whenever we meet. She gives me good criticism and I have really felt like my photos have become better. Overall this Independent Study has been so worth it and I am so excited for the rest of the study!
